Employees contribute 12% of basic salary plus DA to EPF. The employer also contributes 12%, of which up to 8.33% of wages (capped at ₹15,000) goes to the pension scheme (EPS) and the rest to EPF.

## What changes the result
- Basic salary plus DA — EPF is a percentage of it, not of your CTC.

## FAQ
**Is the EPF interest rate fixed?**
No. It is declared every financial year. Change the rate in the calculator to test different scenarios.

**Does this include the pension (EPS)?**
No. The EPS share goes towards a monthly pension and is not part of the EPF balance.

**Is EPF interest taxable?**
Interest is tax-free on contributions up to ₹2.5 lakh a year (₹5 lakh where the employer does not contribute). Interest on employee contributions above that limit is taxable each year.

**Is an EPF withdrawal taxable?**
Withdrawals after 5 years of continuous service are tax-free. Earlier withdrawals are generally taxable, and TDS applies above ₹50,000 if PAN is provided and no exemption applies.
