FD Calculator FAQs
Is FD interest taxable?
Yes. FD interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate; banks deduct TDS above a threshold.
What is the TDS threshold on FD interest?
From 1 April 2025, banks deduct TDS when interest from one bank exceeds ₹50,000 in a financial year (₹1 lakh for senior citizens). If your total income is below the taxable limit, you can submit Form 15G (or 15H if you are 60 or older).
Are bank FDs insured?
Deposits in a bank are insured by DICGC up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank, including principal and interest.
Can I break an FD early?
Most FDs allow premature withdrawal with a penalty, usually a lower rate than originally agreed. 5-year tax-saver FDs cannot be broken early.
